Winning the Pot

After the completion of a poker hand, the winner takes the pot. If there is a split pot the pot is divided between multiple winners. Each winner then receives their share of the pot and the board is cleared to begin play on the next poker hand.

Everest Poker Tip: Having a difficult time discerning the winning hand? Everest Poker gives you the option to have the winning cards highlighted at the end of the hand. In the Options menu, under the Media tab, select the option Highlight Winning Hands.

In the example poker hand just played, Liz won so she receives the entirety of the pot. All the chips in the pot will slide from the center of the table toward the winner or winners, indicating the end of a hand.

Liz has 87 chips in this stack and received 24 chips in this hand's pot. This means she will have a total of 111 chips in her stack for the start of the next poker hand.

After the pot is distributed, the next hand of poker begins. The "D" indicator moves clockwise to the next player (in our example, it goes from Norgay to Liz), and the two poker players to the left of the new dealer will be asked to post the blinds so play on the next poker hand can begin.

This concludes our guide to playing poker. We encourage all beginning poker players to spend time in our exclusive Training Room, learning the controls and flow of play for each pot limit poker type and exploring the poker pot odds. This will ensure that they are better prepared before taking on other poker players and are able to play poker to win. For more information, please see the following sections:
