Internet Poker: Types of Games.
Single-table poker games can feature as little as two players (in a format popularly known as heads-up poker), or have up to ten players. In addition to online poker games where a player may sit and leave at their pleasure, Everest Poker offers single-table and multi-table internet poker tournaments. In these multiplayer poker tournaments, players compete until one player remains with the prize pool being distributed according to how players placed in the event. Information about our poker tournaments, detailed explanations, and schedules are available in the tournament section of this site.
Internet Poker Rules: A Play-By-Play Explanation
If you're confused by any of the internet poker terms you come across, don't worry. Our online poker glossary explains everything in detail. Please note that these feature a simplified explanation of the internet poker rules and we recommend using our built-in tutorial and training room prior to playing against people.
- Play moves clockwise and begins with the players seated with the dealer button. The two players to the left of the player with the dealer button post the small blind (the first player) and big blind (the second player) prior to seeing their cards. This is done in order to ensure that there is money in the pot. After the blinds are posted, the cards are dealt and the player to the left of the big blind opens the betting.
- It is at this point that players in the internet poker game can call (match the amount of the big blind), raise (increase the betting amount), or fold (choose to not play by returning their cards to the dealer). This continues until all the players have contributed an equal amount to the pot or have folded. After this round of betting has finished, the community cards are dealt.
- The first three cards dealt in Texas Holdem or Omaha Poker are called "The Flop". Players build the strongest hand possible using their "pocket cards" and the cards available to them on the table. Another round of betting occurs after the flop.
- The fourth community card is referred to as "The Turn", and after it is dealt, a third round of betting occurs.
- The fifth and final community card is "The River" and after it is dealt, a final round of betting occurs and is followed by The Showdown.
- During the Showdown, the remaining players declare their hand and show their cards. The winner is the player with the strongest hand built from a combination of cards in their hand and on the board. Please note that in Texas Hold Em poker, you may use any combination of cards while Omaha places restrictions on the number of cards you may use from the community cards and cards you were dealt at the start of the hand.
Internet Poker: Rules Regarding Limits
Bet limits in our internet poker games fall into three categories, in general: Fixed Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit.
- In Fixed Limit games, a player bets a fixed amount every time they raise.
- In Pot Limit games, the amount a player can bet is limited by the size of the pot. While this sounds like a restriction, the pot can grow greatly during a round of poker.
- No Limit poker means that there are, literally, no limits on how much a player can bet from their chips, including the whole stack.
Betting minimums in holdem poker games are usually set to be the same amount as the big blind. In our poker tournaments, the big blind steadily increases over time to ensure a result and allow game play to move more quickly.
